Charlie says this Biopic about Bob Dylan is still a Must-See…. Period!
For those who missed it...
Inspiration is all over the Place in this movie even if you are no Musician at all… or Dislike his First Appereance nowadays…
Watching the Early Steps of a 19 year old Bobby Dylan breaking out in the early Sixties was an Eye Opener for Charlie. And what about the Lovely Folk scene back then….
Charlie experienced a Void-Filling-Missing-Part in his Knowledge of Rock History. Now he knows so much more about the timespan between Elvis and the Beatles.
Especially the Folk Festival in Newport turned out to be of importance for The Early Bob Dylan. The Festival at its core was all about the Human Singer, a Guitar, maybe an Harmonica and of course all about the Strenght of the Melody, Lyrics, The Message and the Performance. One word: Wow!
Charlie had some heartfelt longing watching this One.
At this Festival visitors expected and really felt for the song at its core…..
A big hand for Bob, Pete Seeger, Joan Baesz, Johnny Cash BTW.. The love they had for the song... man.... (sigh, sniff)..
Bob Dylan is all about the Message. (That's known by now….) …
As he was influenced by lots of Great artists before him, he himself influenced a vast array of musicians including the Beatles, even George Harrison becoming a close friend (Traveling Wilburies).
In between he also changed a Complete American Generation's Mindset by Singing and Writing his Heart out about all what was wrong with Society back then.
His songs struck Big Time. They wanted Change….
A Learning Point for Charlie :
No Reluctance No More.. : No reason to Shut up whenever you feel something must be said.
Charlie knows: by keeping it Stylish the Message hits harder.. thx Bob!
Funfact 1:
A young Charlie once learned to play guitar from musicbooks containing songs of Joan Baesz and Pete Seeger.
Charlie never heard of them before, so he skipped the songs back then. It's better to focus on songs you do know.
How fun it is to see this movie explaining decades later how big they have been... Excellent!
Funfact 2; (Overthinking The whole Shebang)
Charlie did a some Research afterwards and found out something…
Bob Dylan is 85 nowadays. Joan Baesz also is. Alive and kicking..Pete Seeger died at 94 in a natural way...
Hmmmm..
Is Charlie Witnessing Something Structural here? .
The most of the Rolling Stones, Paul, Ringo, Joni Mitchel, Paul Simon, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, they all won't die do they? What a way to Live ... Maybe knowing that your songs will stick around longer than you yourself makes you stick around a little longer also?
If they say Lovers live a Little Longer what is there to say about Singer-Songwriters?
Charlie sees some correlation here: another reason to keep writing right?
Maybe this will give Charlie some extra time ... big time!
Quality and Quantity at the same time ?
Why not? Hmm.. YES.. Smart thought Charlie !…. Keep Writing…. Never stop….
